Here’s a photo of my first block ever this small – I put a dollar bill next to it to give it a sense of scale. It’s perhaps not a “true” miniature but it feels very small when handling those 1.5 inch squares….
Working on this allowed me to play with my newest toy: a $10 steam iron by Black and Decker Home that I acquired at Target on sale the other day. I gave up my fancy cordless Panasonic iron because it was starting to feel SOOO heavy. This one is super light.
It has very few “real” functions aside from steam, not even an auto-off feature, which scares me a bit. But it doesn’t ache to lift it repeatedly because it’s a featherweight. We’ll see how long it lasts. But hey, maybe it’s worthwhile to get a $10 iron every year rather than a heavy, bulky one that is giving me cervicalgia (what my doc called my neck pain)! Last night, the instruction booklet was my bedtime reading, alongside Henning Mankell’s so-far-terrific The Man from Beijing. (I also highly recommend his book of novella-length detective stories, The Pyramid.)
