It’s nearly August and the budget is tightening! That’s because in the summer, we usually do a bunch of travel to visit family and just to have fun, giving ourself summer memories to turn to for the rest of the year. Then, trips finished, we crunch the numbers and are left wondering, “we spent that much on sunscreen and softserve?” Not to mention the limo rides to the airport. But I digress. I am merely mentioning our cinched belts because I’m trying to “quilt my stash,” making projects from fabrics I have already purchased, rather than going out to buy more stuff. Goodness knows, I have a whole bookcase filled with various fabrics awaiting needle and thread to make them into something fabulous. Of course, now is the time when I wish I’d bought yards rather than stingy little fat quarters! Dream on… At the next sale at my local quilting store, I will definitely think about larger cuts, though.

I am using that jelly roll that graced my floor a few weeks back. It’s a cute “slice and dice” style pattern that my older daughter (who is nearly 5 now) seems quite intrigued with. In fact, she has asked me to make a quilt out of it for her 5th birthday!
